Every investment involves risk. You may lose some or all of the money you invest and, with some products, even more than you invested. Read this warning before making decisions based on the information on einvestitii.ro.
1. General risks
- Market risk: prices fall for economic, political or sentiment reasons, sometimes suddenly and sharply.
- Liquidity risk: some instruments are hard to sell, or can only be sold at a much lower price.
- Currency risk: if you invest in a currency other than the one you spend in, the exchange rate can reduce your gain or increase your loss.
- Concentration risk: putting a lot of money into a single company, sector or country means higher risk.
- Inflation risk: your return may be lower than the rise in prices.
- Model risk: scores, verdicts and fair values are estimates that may be wrong.
- Issuer risk: a company may run into difficulties or go bankrupt, and its shares may end up worthless.
2. By asset type
Stocks
Share prices vary, sometimes strongly. Small companies and companies on emerging markets are usually more volatile and less liquid. Dividends are not guaranteed.
ETFs and funds
An ETF reduces the risk of a single company, but not the risk of the market it tracks. Leveraged, inverse or synthetic ETFs can lose a lot, and quickly, especially over the long term. Check the key information document (KID) before buying.
Indices
An index cannot be bought directly. Products that track it may have costs and may deviate from it.
Crypto-assets
Crypto-assets are highly volatile and can lose all their value. They are not covered by deposit guarantee schemes or investor compensation schemes. Platforms can be hacked, become insolvent or freeze withdrawals. If you lose your wallet keys, you lose your crypto-assets. Use only providers authorised under Regulation (EU) 2023/1114 (MiCA).
CFDs and leveraged products
CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. Most retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs (the percentage published by each broker is shown on its page on the site). You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money.
Currencies (forex) and commodities
Exchange rates and commodity prices react quickly to political decisions, interest rates, weather or conflicts. The products used to trade them, often leveraged, magnify losses.
Options and other derivatives
Derivatives are complex. You can lose the entire premium you paid and, with some strategies, much more.
3. Scams
- No one from einvestitii.ro will ever ask you for money, passwords, card details or wallet keys, or offer you “account management” or guaranteed profits.
- Promises of sure profit, “now or never” pressure and requests to install remote access apps are signs of a scam.
- Check any investment firm in the public register of the ASF, the Romanian Financial Supervisory Authority (asfromania.ro), or of the authority in its own country, before you send it any money.
4. What to do before you invest
- Invest only money you can afford to lose, and keep an emergency fund.
- Diversify, and think about your investment time horizon.
- Understand the product and its costs (commissions, spread, custody fees, currency conversion).
- If you are unsure, ask an authorised adviser for advice.
