PSD is preparing for possible snap elections if the government bid fails, though Grindeanu called that outcome undesirable for Romania.
Romania’s annual inflation rose to 6.6% in September, above the 6.50% interest rate on one-year Tezaur government bonds. At the current inflation rate, the bonds’ return does not preserve purchasing power.
Romania’s National Liberal Party will support Prime Minister-designate Luca Niculescu’s investiture and is willing to sign a principles agreement with him, spokesman Ionel Bogdan said. The pact would set out the party’s non-negotiables and would be with Niculescu, not the PSD, even if the Social Democrats join the cabinet.
